ClimateImpactsOnline for Tanzania

ClimateImpactsOnline provides information on possible impacts of climate change on the United Republic of Tanzania, the largest country in East Africa. The country's varied geography is characterized by mountain terrain, including Africa's highest point, Mount Kilimanjaro, savannah, dese forest, deep and large lakes and the eastern coast line.

The climate crisis is increasing the risk of extreme events, like intense rainfall or prolonged dry spells. Climate change is already impacting livelihoods across Tanzania, particular those of smallholder farmers. The majority of Tanzanians depend on agriculture for their livelihoods, income and employment. 56% of the Gross Domestic Product is generated by this sector. Apart from agriculture, affected sectors include water resources, fisheries, healt and energy. Considering projected climate impacts, there is a need for state-of-the-art tools to better understand existing and projected climate risks in an accessible and user-friendly way. Web-based tools can help policy and decision makers, scientists or farmers to better respond to climate change.

Additional information on cities' locations, water bodies, forests and mountains at different administrative level is available to understand the local impacts.
